Law Firm Marketing Agency: Types, Prices and How to Choose One

Search "law firm marketing agency" and you get SEO shops, legal-only full-service agencies, ad managers and video producers, all with the same promise. They sell different jobs at very different prices. Here is how they differ, what firms pay, what to ask before you sign, and where video fits.

What kinds of law firm marketing agencies are there?

When you search for a law firm marketing agency, you find four different businesses under one name. Each takes a different part of the work, and each has a different price. I don't rank them. I describe what they sell and who it fits.

ModelWhat you getTypical public priceFits best if
SEO and PPC agencywebsite work, local SEO, Google Ads and Local Services Ads, reportsSEO about $1,000–9,500 a month by firm size; ad spend on topyou want calls from people who already search for a lawyer
Legal-only full-service agencywebsite, SEO, ads, intake help, bar-rules review, often a long contractabout $3,000–15,000 a month, depending on practice area and marketyou are a mid-size firm in a competitive field such as personal injury
Video and YouTube producerstrategy, filming, editing, thumbnails, publishing, Shortsfrom about $300 per edited video to $3,000+ a month for a done-for-you channelclients research for weeks and you want them to trust you before the call
In-house marketerone person who knows your firm and manages vendorsa salary plus tools (I found no reliable public figure for law firms)you have steady work for one full-time person

The first two models buy attention at the moment someone already needs a lawyer. The third builds trust earlier and keeps working in search for years. The fourth is a hire, not a vendor. Most firms end up mixing two of them.

How much does a law firm marketing agency cost in 2026?

There is no independent survey of agency fees for lawyers, so I used public guides from agencies. They sell these services, so they may lean high. Treat the ranges as direction, not as a quote.

Firm sizeSEO per monthWhat it usually covers
Solo lawyerabout $1,000–3,500local SEO, Google Business Profile, a few pages or posts
Small firm (2–5 lawyers)about $2,500–5,000SEO plus content for each practice area
Mid-size firm (6–20 lawyers)about $5,000–9,500SEO, content, links, often ads management
Large firm (21+ lawyers)about $10,000–20,000+multi-office SEO, content team, reporting

Source: SeoProfy, law firm SEO cost, updated May 2026. A second agency guide, On The Map Marketing, gives a wider $3,000–15,000 a month, about $5,000 for a competitive practice like personal injury, and warns against SEO sold for $50 or $100. Both are vendors. Checked in October 2026.

Ad spend is separate. LocaliQ (WordStream) reported an average of about $9 per click and about $111 per lead for legal Google Ads in campaigns run from April 2022 to March 2023. That is the highest in most industries, and the data is a few years old. A lead is a call or a form, not a signed client.

For comparison, our YouTube production starts from $3,000 a month, and one-off work starts from $500. Public prices for six video companies are in YouTube production companies compared. The real question is the value of one case. If a case brings you $5,000 or more, one extra client a quarter can cover most of these fees. Use the break-even calculator with your own numbers.

What should you ask a law firm marketing agency before you sign?

Put every offer in the same table and get answers in writing.

  • Which jobs are included: website, SEO, ads, content, reviews, intake, video?
  • Who will check every ad, page and video against my state bar's rules?
  • Will you show me your work for two firms in my practice area, with names?
  • What do you report: calls, signed clients, cost per signed client?
  • Who owns the domain, ad accounts, analytics and Google Business Profile? (It should be you.)
  • How much do you charge for management, and how much goes to ad platforms?
  • What is the minimum contract, and what happens if I leave in month four?
  • Who will I talk to every week, and who is on the sales call?
  • How do you handle client confidentiality and call recordings?
  • What would make you say my firm is not a fit?

The last question is my favorite. A good agency can name the clients it does not want.

What are the red flags?

  • Guarantees. "Your site on the first page of Google in 60 days" or "20 cases a month". It can happen, but usually it doesn't. Nobody controls Google or your market. Most often it's a marketing trick with an asterisk: the conditions show up later, in the contract.
  • Fake or paid reviews and testimonials. This can put your license at risk.
  • The agency owns your assets. Domain, ad accounts or your Google profile in their name.
  • Long contracts with no exit. Twelve months or more with no way out.
  • Reports without signed clients. Impressions, clicks and "traffic" only.
  • Generic content. Text that could be about any firm in any state.

For video agencies the list is similar, and I wrote it out in how to spot a scam YouTube agency.

On rules: in the US, each state bar writes its own advertising rules. Most are based on the ABA Model Rules, and Rules 7.1 to 7.3 cover misleading statements, advertising and solicitation (the ABA publishes the Model Rules). States differ, and some are stricter. I'm not a lawyer, and this is not legal advice. Check your state bar's rules, and don't use anything that promises outcomes.

Where does YouTube fit, and when does it not?

Ads and SEO catch a person who already searches for "divorce lawyer near me". Video reaches the person earlier, who is still asking "how does this work" or "do I need a lawyer". It also lets them watch you for twenty minutes before they call. That is the same logic as in law firm video marketing, where I go deeper.

Video fits when:

  • clients research for days or weeks (estate planning, business, employment, family, immigration);
  • one client is worth thousands of dollars;
  • one lawyer in the firm can explain things in plain words and is OK being on camera.

Video does not fit when you need a signed case this week. Emergency work, like a fresh accident, is where paid ads and local SEO beat everything else. Video is the slow, cheap-per-view channel that works next to them. Our related guide on YouTube ads vs organic explains how the two combine.

Which lawyers win with video on YouTube?

Four lawyers whose long videos pull big numbers in practice areas where clients research first. Views are YouTube data on 23 October 2026. They show demand, not how many clients each video brought.

Four lawyer videos: living trust explained by Toby Mathis, 2.6M views; trademark a name, 248K; getting more severance, 154K; LLC holding company structure, 85K
Reference videos from lawyers. YouTube data on 23 October 2026

These videos don't sell a service. They answer what people ask. If you hire an agency, make sure it can help you do the same. Check your state's rules before you publish: no promises of outcomes, no "I will win your case", and a clear note that a video is general information.

What is our experience in law?

I'll be honest: we have no law firm client yet. I can't show you a case study from a lawyer, and I won't make one up.

What we do have is the closest thing: expert-led professional services where trust decides. We made videos for an orthodontist, and one client who found him on YouTube paid for all of his production over six months. We also work with a dental clinic chain. The mechanics are the same as for a lawyer: a serious decision, a stressed buyer, and expert answers in plain language. The story is in orthodontic marketing. The hub for lawyers is law firm video marketing, and the nearest niche guide is estate planning attorney marketing.

If you want video for your practice, here is what our YouTube production service includes. If you need SEO or ads, pick a specialist agency from the questions above. I'll tell you honestly which fits, even if it's not us.

FAQ

What does a law firm marketing agency do?

It takes over some or all of the jobs that bring a law firm new clients: website, SEO, Google Ads and Local Services Ads, reviews, content, social media and video. Models differ a lot. Some only run ads, some only do SEO, and some are legal-only agencies that handle most channels. Always ask which jobs are included.

How much does a law firm marketing agency cost?

Public 2026 guides put law firm SEO at about $1,000–3,500 a month for a solo lawyer, $2,500–5,000 for a small firm and $5,000–9,500 for a mid-size firm, with ad spend on top. Evgeny Maximov's agency, which does YouTube video production for experts, starts from $3,000 a month.

What is the difference between a legal marketing agency and a general marketing agency?

A legal-only agency knows bar advertising rules, practice-area keywords and intake. A general agency may be cheaper or more creative but can make mistakes with testimonials, outcome claims and solicitation. If you hire a general agency, ask who checks every ad against your state bar rules.

Do lawyers need a marketing agency?

Not always. A solo lawyer with a steady referral flow can start with a good website, a Google Business Profile and a few videos recorded on a phone. An agency makes sense when one new client is worth thousands of dollars and you have no time to run marketing yourself.

What are the advertising rules for law firm marketing?

In the US, each state bar sets its own rules, and most are based on the ABA Model Rules 7.1 to 7.3. Rule 7.1 bans false or misleading statements about a lawyer or the lawyer's services. Rules differ by state, so check yours. This article is not legal advice.

How long does it take for a law firm marketing agency to show results?

Paid ads can bring calls in the first weeks if you spend enough. SEO usually takes several months, and long YouTube videos build up over many months because they keep ranking in search. Be careful with anyone who promises a fixed timeline for cases or calls.

Is YouTube good for law firm marketing?

It works well for lawyers whose clients research before they call, such as estate planning, business, employment and family law. A 15-minute video that answers a real question builds trust before the first call. Evgeny Maximov's agency produces this kind of video for experts, but it has no law firm client yet.

What are red flags when hiring a law firm marketing agency?

Guarantees of rankings, cases or calls, long contracts with no exit, the agency owning your domain or ad accounts, fake or paid testimonials, and reports full of clicks but no signed clients. Any of these should end the conversation.

Should I hire an agency or an in-house marketer for my law firm?

An in-house marketer knows your firm and is always available, but is one person with one skill set. An agency brings a team and tools for a monthly fee. Many mid-size firms use both: one in-house person and an agency for ads, SEO or video.

What is a good cost per lead for a law firm?

WordStream data for the legal industry showed an average of about $111 per lead from Google Ads in campaigns run in 2022 and 2023. A lead is not a signed client. Ask any agency for cost per signed case, not only cost per lead.

Can a law firm marketing agency film videos for me?

Some can, but most law firm agencies focus on SEO and ads. Video agencies usually plan, film, edit and publish long videos and Shorts for you. Check that your videos follow your state's advertising rules before they go live.
