How to Repurpose YouTube Videos: One Long Video, a Week of Content on Every Platform

Film once, show up everywhere. From one long video we get about five good Shorts, a LinkedIn post, an email and an article for the website. Here's the whole repurposing system, the clip recipe our editors follow, and one small posting detail that changed reach three times on a client's account.

Why repurpose instead of filming more?

Because the founder's time is the bottleneck, not the platforms. You can't film something new every day. But four long videos a month give enough material to post every day, on every platform, without filming every day.

What do you get from one long video?

PieceHow manyWhere
Shorts / Reels / TikToksabout 5 from a 15-minute video, about 10 from an hour-long podcastYouTube Shorts, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn
A LinkedIn post1–2the main takeaway, link in the first comment
An email1the story and the link to the video
A website article1, up to ~5 from a podcastyour blog, from the transcript
A sales assetwhen it fitsa video you send to leads who ask the same question

The 5–15 clips per hour range is real: it depends a lot on the speaker. Strong speakers give more. Don't force 20 clips out of a calm, detailed video. A few strong ones beat many weak ones.

What's the recipe for a good clip?

Our editors cut every Short the same way:

The clip recipe: pick one moment, a hook plate in the first 3 seconds, vertical with the face in the center, captions that read on a phone, end on the punchline, a short subscribe animation and a Related video link
The clip recipe we use for every Short
  1. One moment, one complete idea. If it needs context from minute 7, it's not a clip.
  2. A hook plate in the first 3 seconds: the promise in a few words on screen.
  3. Vertical, face in the center.
  4. Captions that read on a phone.
  5. End on the punchline. Not on "so yeah".
  6. A Related video link to the next step on your channel.

Ideally the same editor who cut the long video cuts the clips. They already know where the best moments are.

Repurposing is one part of the system. The free Business YouTube Playbook shows strategy, filming, packaging and distribution together. No opt-ins.

Should you post by hand or schedule?

Here's a small test from a client's Instagram. Same type of Reels, same account, five days. Posted by hand: 12,399 views. Scheduled through a tool: 3,709. More than three times the difference for one button. Since then we post by hand where it matters, and use scheduling only where it doesn't hurt.

Your results may differ, but test it on your own account before you automate everything.

Do Shorts from long videos bring clients?

Mostly they bring recognition. Someone sees your face in their feed, then a week later finds your long video and recognizes you. That's when trust starts. On one client's channel, Shorts used to get 1–3 thousand views. After the long videos started working, one grew from 1,500 to 15,000 views. The long videos lift the Shorts, not the other way around.

So don't judge a repurposing system by clip views. Judge it by whether people who book calls mention your videos. More on this in YouTube Shorts for business.

Clipping agency or your own clips?

Clipping agencies cut clips from your content and post them on many accounts at once. Some charge five figures a month for networks of accounts and hundreds of posts. It works for creators chasing reach. For a business selling something expensive, I'd rather see fewer clips, on your own accounts, pointing to your long videos and your call. Reach without trust doesn't book calls.

FAQ

How do you repurpose a YouTube video?

Start from one long video. Cut 3–5 Shorts with one complete idea each, write a LinkedIn post with the main takeaway, send an email with the link, turn the transcript into a website article and post the clips across the week on YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.

How many Shorts can you get from one long video?

From a regular 15-minute video, about five good Shorts. From an hour-long podcast, about ten. The normal range is 5 to 15 good clips per hour of recording; more only from very skilled speakers.

Should I post the same clip on YouTube Shorts, Instagram and TikTok?

Yes. Making different content for every platform is a job for a big marketing team, not a founder. Post the same clips everywhere, adjusted for each platform's format and captions.

Is scheduled posting worse than posting manually?

On one client's Instagram account, it was. The same Reels posted by hand got 12,399 views in five days, while scheduled ones got 3,709. Evgeny Maximov's team now posts by hand where it matters.

What makes a good Short cut from a long video?

One moment with one complete idea, a hook plate in the first three seconds, a vertical frame with the face in the center, captions that read on a phone, an ending on the punchline and a Related video link to the next step.

Should I hire a clipping agency?

If your goal is huge reach for a personal brand and you already have hours of content, maybe. For a business with high-ticket clients, clips from your own long videos, posted on your own accounts, usually do more for trust than mass clipping across many accounts.

Can I turn a YouTube video into a blog article?

Yes. Take the transcript, structure it with questions as headings, add screenshots from the video and a short FAQ. Evgeny Maximov's blog is built this way from his own videos.

Do Shorts from long videos bring clients?

They mostly bring recognition, not direct sales. A buyer sees your face in their feed, then finds your long video. On one client's channel, Shorts went from 1–3 thousand views to 15,000 after the long videos started working.

Who should cut the Shorts?

Ideally the same editor who edited the long video, because they already know the best moments. Evgeny Maximov's team uses a clip recipe so every editor cuts the same way.

How do I add a link to a Short?

Links in Shorts descriptions aren't clickable. Use the Related video feature to link the Short to a video on your channel, and keep your main links in the channel header.
