Essential Tool List to Start a YouTube-Channel (For Free)

You don’t need to buy gear when you just start creating content.
Focus on content creation and skill building.
When I started in 2014, I had only a PC and a terrible mic. No camera, no lighting, no smartphone to use (2014, remember?).
And my first purchase was a cool microphone. I bought it on the next year of my content creation journey.
And you know what? That’s was ENOUGH.
Buy gear when you’re ready to scale.
Start creating now!
Smartphone for shooting videos
Even 4-year old iPhone will work great.
Every camera will shoot good video if you have enough lighting. That’s the key.
If there is a choice – buy a camera or update a smartphone to shoot videos, pick the second option.
Right now flagship-smartphones record great footage.
And I use an iPhone in my commercials and I’ve got zero questions from my clients.
Notion for content management
If you want to create a lot of content, you need to have a system where you store and track all your progress.
And Notion is the best app for this.
This email was written in Notion. Progress for my / client videos was tracked in Notion. Work with my teammates in Notion. My whole life is in Notion (not a joke).
I have a free template that you can use for a quick start.
CapCut for video editing on smartphone, PC or Mac
This is the best free video editing app.
When I was a kid, I started with Adobe Premiere Pro and I spent so many hours trying to learn how to use it.
Instead of creating, I had to learn. A lot.
And because this is a Pro app, you will use only 5% of functions.
Why do you need to torture yourself when you have an easier way?
You can start with CapCut and after it switch on Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve.
Even though I have 10 years of video editing experience, I use CapCut in combination of AI tools and Final Cut Pro.
Canva for design thumbnail creation
There are a lot of various templates, web-version, AI features and it’s easy to use.
Again, I started using Adobe Photoshop and it’s a nightmare.
I know why I wanted to use complicated solutions. I was a kid with plenty of free time 😂
But now I recommend simple solutions.
OBS for screen recording and live streaming
Ok, this one is more complicated than Loom or Zoom, but damn it’s so good.
I used it for 2 years when I had a Twitch-channel.
Now I use it to record tutorials for my team, live streams for my clients.
I even hosted an online event for almost 200 people using OBS, with a lot of graphics, speakers and videos.
So highly recommend this app if Loom or Zoom is not enough for screen recording (or you’re not happy with the final quality like I am)
