# YouTube Video Production Cost for Business: Real 2026 Prices for Every Path

A business YouTube channel can cost you $500 or $30,000 a month. Same goal, very different paths. Here are the market prices for each path and each job, two real budgets line by line, and the simple math that tells you which one makes sense.

By **Evgeny Maximov** · 10 min read · 23 Oct 2026

**Key takeaways**

**Short answer:** in 2026, a business YouTube channel costs roughly: a DIY setup from under $500 to about $3,000 plus your time; freelancers about $100–250 per long video for editing alone; a done-for-you agency about $3,000–10,000 a month; an in-house team about $15,000–25,000 a month in salaries. The right choice depends on your deal size and your time, not on the cheapest line.

- The real cost of DIY is your time, not the camera.
- Freelancers are cheap per video and expensive in management.
- Editing is about half of what a video costs to make.
- Count how many clients pay for a year of content.

## What are the four ways to produce YouTube content?

Behind every video there are seven jobs: ideas and research, the script, filming, editing, thumbnails and titles, publishing and SEO, distribution and analytics. The price depends on who does each one.

![A table of seven jobs behind one video and who does each under four routes: one-man band, freelancers, your own team and an agency, with typical costs](https://evgenymaximov.com/img/fig-seven-jobs-four-routes.webp)Four ways to run the same seven jobs. Costs: English-speaking market, 2026

| Path | What you get | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| **DIY** | you do everything | gear from under $500 to ~$3,000 once, plus many hours a week |
| **Freelancers** | editing, maybe thumbnails | ~$100–250 per long video for editing |
| **Done-for-you agency** | strategy, scripts, editing, design, publishing, Shorts | ~$3,000–10,000 a month |
| **In-house team** | your own producer, editors, designer | ~$15,000–25,000 a month in salaries |

These are ranges for English-speaking markets, from our work and public price lists. Your quote will depend on volume, the filming format and how much strategy you need.

## What does each job cost on the market?

If you buy every job separately, here's roughly what you pay in 2026:

| Job | Market price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| **Editing a long video** | ~$100–250 with a freelancer | more for heavy graphics or a documentary |
| **A script** | ~$200–1,000 per long video | depends on research and the writer's level. More in [hiring a YouTube scriptwriter](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-scriptwriter/) |
| **A thumbnail** | ~$5–30 budget, ~$30–150 solid, $100–300+ specialists | see [how to hire a thumbnail designer](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-thumbnail-designer/) |
| **A studio for a day** | ~$30–150 an hour on Peerspace, ~$105 an hour average for podcast studios on Giggster | often a 2-hour minimum; a crew costs extra |
| **A VSL** | ~$2,000–8,000 with a freelancer, $8,000–30,000+ with an agency | a sales video, not a YouTube episode |
| **A done-for-you B2B podcast** | from ~$3,000 a month | more in [video podcast production](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/how-to-start-a-video-podcast/) |

Studio prices are from [Peerspace](https://www.peerspace.com/resources/cost-to-rent-a-studio/) and [Giggster](https://giggster.com/book/podcast-studio), October 2026. Script prices are from freelancer rate guides (more in the scriptwriter article); VSL and podcast ranges come from public agency price lists.

And then there are the jobs nobody prices: strategy, packaging, publishing, Shorts, quality control and analytics. That's exactly where most DIY and freelancer setups break.

## Why is editing the biggest line?

A few months ago we added up what it really costs us to deliver for clients. Editing was about half of it. Not the camera, not the studio. The edit.

That makes sense when you see the work. Someone records for two hours. Then an editor makes a rough cut, cleans the sound, adds B-roll, text and graphics, does the sound design and exports. Many small operations inside one video. Good editors are the best-paid people on a production team, and they should be. That's why the cheapest editor is usually the most expensive one: you pay again with your own hours, fixing typos and missing sounds. More in [what good YouTube editing looks like](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-video-editing-for-business/).

## Why is DIY the most expensive option?

The camera isn't the cost. Your time is. Ideas, scripts, filming, editing, thumbnails, SEO, publishing, comments, analytics, Shorts. A dozen small tasks, every week. A founder whose hour is worth $300 spends thousands of dollars of time a month to save on an editor.

If you're just testing, start cheap: a phone, a $100–200 wireless mic and a soft LED light. Spend on light and sound before the camera. Skip the ring light: the picture looks flat, and the color often has a tint you can't fix later. And keep the setup simple. If it takes 20 minutes to turn everything on, you won't want to film. Here are [nine filming setups ranked by cost](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-filming-setups/).

## Why are freelancers cheap per video and expensive overall?

A freelance editor does one job well. But someone still has to find ideas, write scripts, brief the editor, review the edit, design the thumbnail, write the title, publish, cut Shorts and track results. That someone is usually the founder. You delegated one job out of seven. More in [how to hire a YouTube editor](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/how-to-hire-a-youtube-editor/).

## What do two real budgets look like?

Here are two typical monthly budgets for four long videos and about 20 Shorts. Market prices, not quotes.

| Line | Freelancers (you manage) | Done-for-you agency |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy and content plan | you | included |
| 4 scripts | you, or $800–4,000 ($200–1,000 each) | included |
| Filming day | studio ~$300–600 for a half day, or your phone | priced separately, depends on location |
| Editing 4 long videos | $400–1,000 | included |
| ~20 Shorts | $300–1,500 for a Shorts package, or you cut them | included |
| 4 thumbnails and titles | $120–600, titles are on you | included, with A/B tests when the channel is big enough |
| Publishing, SEO, reposting | you | included |
| **Money** | **~$2,000–7,500 if you buy every line** | **~$3,000–10,000** |
| **Your time** | **many hours a week** | **about 14 hours a month** |

The money gap is smaller than it looks. The time gap is the real difference.

## When does an in-house team make sense?

When you publish a lot, have several channels or need content every day on many platforms. A minimal team is a producer, one or two editors and an assistant, around $15,000–25,000 a month in salaries, plus hiring, tools and management. Building it from zero usually takes months. The full comparison is in [agency vs in-house content team](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/agency-vs-in-house-content-team/).

## What does Evgeny Maximov's agency charge?

We start from $3,000 a month for a done-for-you channel. One-off projects start from $500. A video podcast starts from $500 for pre-production and post-production, and filming is priced separately because it depends on your location. You film one day a month. We do the rest. Here's [what's included in channel management](https://evgenymaximov.com/services/youtube-channel-management/).

## How do you know if it's worth it?

Simple math: divide the yearly cost by your average deal size.

$5,000 a monthproduction
×12
$60,000 a yeartotal cost
÷
$10,000your average deal
=
6 clientspay for the year

Everything after those six is profit, and the videos keep working next year. Our client [Tvoy Sklad](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/tvoy-sklad-youtube-case-study/), a self-storage franchise, raised about $5M with videos that got 2,000 to 20,000 views. If your average deal is $200, the math doesn't work, and you probably need a cheaper path. Run your numbers in the [break-even calculator](https://evgenymaximov.com/break-even-calculator/).

## FAQ

**How much does YouTube video production cost for a business?**

In 2026, roughly: a DIY setup from under $500 to about $3,000 plus your time; about $100–250 per long video for a freelance editor; about $3,000–10,000 a month for a done-for-you agency; and about $15,000–25,000 a month in salaries for an in-house team. Evgeny Maximov's agency starts from $3,000 a month, one-off projects from $500.

**How much does it cost to make one YouTube video?**

A talking-head long video edited by a freelancer usually costs a few hundred dollars for the edit alone. Add a script ($200–1,000), a thumbnail and the filming. The full cost of one well-made business video is often $1,000 or more if every job is bought separately.

**How much does video editing cost for YouTube?**

Freelance editors usually charge about $100–250 for a long talking-head video, more for heavy graphics or documentaries. In Evgeny Maximov's agency, editing is about half of what a video costs to produce.

**How much does it cost to rent a studio for a YouTube video or podcast?**

On US marketplaces, studios usually rent for about $30–150 an hour on Peerspace, and Giggster lists podcast studios at about $105 an hour on average, often with a 2-hour minimum (October 2026). A studio with a camera operator and sound engineer costs more.

**How much does podcast production cost?**

Done-for-you B2B podcast services usually start around $3,000 a month. Evgeny Maximov's agency charges from $500 for pre-production and post-production of a video podcast, with filming priced separately because it depends on the location.

**Is it cheaper to hire an agency or build an in-house team?**

At the start, an agency is usually cheaper: it covers the producer, editors, designer and publishing for roughly the price of one senior hire. An in-house team makes sense with high volume, several channels and someone to manage it.

**What is the cheapest way to start a business YouTube channel?**

A phone, a $100–200 wireless microphone and a soft LED light, with one long video a week. The money is small, but the time cost is big: a founder doing everything alone often spends many hours a week on it.

**How do I know if YouTube is worth the cost for my business?**

Divide the yearly production cost by your average deal size. With a $10,000 offer and $5,000 a month in production, six full-price clients cover a year. If your average deal is $200, this math usually doesn't work.

**Why do YouTube agency prices vary so much?**

Volume, filming format (you film yourself or a crew comes to you), the amount of strategy and research, the number of platforms and Shorts, and the team's experience all move the price. Always compare what's included, not only the monthly number.

**Do I pay separately for filming?**

Often yes. Agencies usually price their own work (strategy, scripts, editing, design, publishing) and the filming day separately, because a studio, a camera operator and travel depend on your city. If you film yourself, that part costs less.

**What is included in YouTube video production services?**

Full video production services cover strategy, scripts, filming support, editing, thumbnails and titles, publishing and analytics. Many cheaper services cover only editing, so compare what's included, not the price per video.

**Is video production cheaper per minute or per video?**

For YouTube, pricing per video or per month makes more sense than per minute, because a 20-minute talking-head video can be faster to edit than a 3-minute video full of graphics. Ask what the price includes and how many revision rounds you get.
