# Wealth Management Marketing: How RIAs Win $1M+ Clients With Long Video

A family with $3 million doesn't pick a wealth manager after one ad. They check you for months, sometimes years. Here's how wealth managers and RIAs can use long video to be the firm they already trust when they're ready.

By **Evgeny Maximov** · 10 min read · 23 Oct 2026

**Key takeaways**

**Short answer:** wealth management marketing works best as a mix of **referrals** (clients, CPAs, estate attorneys) and **long educational videos** that answer what clients with $1M or more search for months before they call: how much they need to retire, taxes, Roth conversions, fees and how to choose an advisor. One client can be worth tens of thousands of dollars a year, so you need a few right viewers, not millions. Plan compliance review into every video.

- Wealthy clients check an advisor for months or years. Video lets them do it without you in the room.
- One client at a 1% fee on $2M is about $20,000 a year. The math forgives small view counts.
- The topics are evergreen: retirement, taxes, fees, choosing an advisor.
- Compliance is a step in production, not a reason to stay silent.

## What is wealth management marketing?

Wealth management marketing is how an RIA or a wealth management firm gets in front of people with serious assets and earns their trust. Usually that means households with $1M or more, business owners after an exit, executives with stock, families thinking about the next generation.

Most firms still grow from referrals. A happy client tells a friend. A CPA sends a business owner. That's great, but you can't plan it. The question is what fills the gap between referrals.

Ads are one answer. In Google Keyword Planner, the top-of-page bid for “wealth management” runs about $6–22 per click in the US and UK, and for “RIA marketing firms” around $66 (converted from pounds). Attention in this industry is expensive, and a click from a stranger is far from a client who moves $2M to you.

Long video is the other answer. I've written a broader guide to [financial advisor marketing on YouTube](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/financial-advisor-marketing/). This one is for firms with bigger clients and slower decisions.

## Why do wealthy clients research an advisor for so long?

Three reasons, and they're the same reasons long video works so well here.

- **The stakes are huge.** Someone with $3M is handing over the result of a lifetime of work. A wrong choice can cost more than a house.
- **The relationship is long.** A good wealth management client stays for 10, 20 years. People think hard before a marriage like that.
- **They can't check quality before they buy.** Performance is not a fair test, fees look similar, and every website says “fiduciary” and “personalized”. So they look for something else: how you think.

That's what a 20-minute video shows. How you explain a Roth conversion. Whether you're calm. Taki Moore, a coach for advisors and consultants, shared a story about a former client who analysed every buyer of his business: each one had consumed at least 47 minutes of content before buying. For a decision about someone's life savings, 47 minutes is probably the minimum.

And here's the math that makes small channels fine. Say your fee is 1% and a new client brings $2M. That's about $20,000 a year, every year they stay. Two such clients a year from content, and a whole year of production is paid for many times. It's an illustration, not a forecast, but it explains why I keep telling professional firms that [views are the wrong metric](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/vanity-metrics-views-vs-clients/).

## What videos do high-net-worth clients watch before they call?

Think in four levels. The broad videos bring new people. The deep ones bring meetings.

| Level | Video ideas | Job |
|---|---|---|
| **Broad** | “Is $2M enough to retire?” · “How the wealthy lower their taxes” · “What to do in the year before you retire” | reach: people who don't have an advisor yet |
| **Comparison** | “Fee-only vs commission: what you really pay” · “Roth conversion or not?” · “Private bank vs independent RIA” | people deciding how to manage their money |
| **Process** | “What happens in our first three meetings” · “How we build a tax plan” · “What we check when a business owner sells” | trust: people choosing who to hire |
| **Proof** | “An anonymized $4M case: what we changed” · “Questions to ask any advisor, including us” | the final push before the intro call |

Narrow beats broad here. A channel for “everyone with money” competes with every finance creator on YouTube. A channel for tech executives with stock, or for business owners planning an exit, or for doctors close to retirement, has fewer rivals and every video feels personal. More on picking one buyer in [the personal branding strategy guide](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/personal-branding-strategy/).

## How do RIAs stay compliant with video?

I'm not a compliance officer, and the rules depend on your registration and country. In the US, investment advisers follow the SEC Marketing Rule; in the UK, financial promotions rules apply. So treat this as production habits, and check every point with your compliance team:

- Compliance reviews the script questions before filming and the final cut before publishing.
- Examples are hypothetical and labeled as such. No real client numbers that could identify anyone.
- No performance promises and no “we beat the market” claims.
- Testimonials and endorsements only within your regulator's rules and your firm's policy.
- A disclaimer on screen and in the description, and an archive of everything you publish.

Educational videos are usually the easiest content to approve. When you [film four videos in one day](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/batch-filming/) once a month, compliance gets a week or two with the cuts before anything goes live.

## Have we worked with wealth managers?

Not yet, and I'd rather say it straight. The closest example is a business that raises money from private investors.

[Tvoy Sklad](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/tvoy-sklad-youtube-case-study/) is a self-storage franchise. Over 2024–2025 they raised about $5M in investments, and YouTube was one of their main channels. Their videos get 2,000–20,000 views. Small numbers for YouTube, big for a niche where one investor can bring a serious check.

What matters for wealth managers is how those investors behaved. They watched for months. Then they came to a Zoom call and said, more or less, “Don't explain anything, I've already watched all your videos.” The founder told us YouTube became the main resource of the company, because he had made a copy of himself. That's exactly the job video does for an advisor: the first five meetings happen without you.

Another example from a different field: a real estate agency we work with in Thailand got a lead from a 20-minute video about how to choose property there. Very dry, numbers and charts, about 500 views. When the decision is big, people watch the boring video to the end.

## How should your people who talk to prospects use these videos?

Don't just post the videos and wait. Give them to the people who talk to leads. In practice, a long video becomes your VSL, a video sales letter: the advisor explains their approach, their process and how fees work before the first meeting.

- **Warm up new leads.** A prospect asks about your approach? Send the video that explains it before the meeting, within your compliance rules.
- **Build trust.** A prospect who has watched the advisor for 20 minutes comes in already knowing the person they'll trust with their money.
- **Raise conversion.** Fewer prospects who stall after the first meeting, because they already understand your process.
- **Raise the price.** An advisor people know from YouTube can win larger accounts and hold their fee.

## Which 5 videos can a wealth manager film this month, with proven references?

Here are five videos you can take into production now. For each one there is a real video that already got views from people with serious money questions, with its packaging on screen. They are not here to be copied. They show that the topic works and what people click, so you can build your own title, thumbnail and angle.

The steps come from the Buyer Ladder, the model we use for content plans in my free course [The Trust Engine](https://evgeny-maximov.notion.site/the-trust-engine-the-business-youtube-course). Views are YouTube data on 23 October 2026. They show demand, not how many clients each video brought. Most references are from US advisors and creators, so check your own regulator's rules on performance claims and testimonials, and keep every video educational.

### Video 1: Is $2M enough to retire?

- **Buyer stage:** Not looking yet → has a problem but doesn't see it. A broad question every saver with real money asks, long before they look for an advisor.
- **The question or objection it answers:** “How much do I really need, and am I there yet?”
- **Title options:** “Is $2M Enough to Retire? A Wealth Manager Runs the Numbers” · “Once You Have $3M, Do This Before You Retire”
- **Thumbnail:** One number, “$2M”, and a short verdict like “ENOUGH?” next to your face. The first reference adds a simple chart that flattens out above $2M.

- **What to change for you:** Use the number your typical client has, which may be $3M or $5M, and a hypothetical household that looks like them. Show the spending, the taxes and what could go wrong. That last part is where you sound like a planner, not a calculator.

### Video 2: Roth conversions: when they make sense and when they don't

- **Buyer stage:** Has a problem but doesn't see it → knows the problem, not a priority yet. The viewer has heard the term and suspects they're missing a tax move.
- **The question or objection it answers:** “Should I convert, how much, and when?”
- **Title options:** “Roth Conversions Explained: 3 Situations Where They Pay Off” · “The Roth Conversion Mistake I See With $2M+ Portfolios”
- **Thumbnail:** A before and after balance, like a big traditional IRA number with an arrow to “$0”. The second reference uses “RULES CHANGED” with an old and new chart.

- **What to change for you:** Merit Financial Advisors is an advisory firm, which is the point: a firm can own a tax topic. Pick the tax question your clients ask most in your country and answer it with one hypothetical household. Outside the US, use your own retirement accounts and rules.

### Video 3: Fee-only, fee-based or commission: what you really pay

- **Buyer stage:** Choosing who to hire. The viewer is comparing firms and wants to understand the price before the first meeting.
- **The question or objection it answers:** “With this much money, do I even need an advisor, and how are you paid?”
- **Title options:** “Fee-Only vs Commission: What a $2M Client Really Pays” · “Do You Need an Advisor If You Have $1.5M?”
- **Thumbnail:** Your face and a short phrase like “HIDDEN COSTS”, or a money bag with the question “DO I NEED ONE?”

- **What to change for you:** Explain your own fee structure in plain dollars and say who doesn't need you. Clients who still book after this video already accept your price. Send it to every lead before the intro call.

### Video 4: How to choose a wealth manager: the questions to ask

- **Buyer stage:** Looking for a solution → choosing who to hire. The viewer is ready to interview firms and is afraid of choosing wrong.
- **The question or objection it answers:** “How do I know this firm is good and honest?”
- **Title options:** “10 Questions to Ask Before You Hire a Wealth Manager” · “How to Pick the Right Advisor (Even If It's Not Us)”
- **Thumbnail:** A big number and the word “QUESTIONS” next to your face, or a plain promise like “HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT ADVISOR”.

- **What to change for you:** Write the checklist you'd want a prospect to use on you: fiduciary status, how you're paid, who manages the money day to day, what happens if your advisor leaves. You pass your own test, and the viewer arrives at the meeting already comparing others to you.

### Video 5: How high earners and wealthy families lower their taxes

- **Buyer stage:** Has a problem but doesn't see it → knows the problem, not a priority yet. The viewer earns or owns a lot and feels they pay more tax than they should.
- **The question or objection it answers:** “What do people with my money do that I'm not doing?”
- **Title options:** “11 Tax Strategies for High-Income Families” · “How the Wealthy Actually Invest (and Why It's Boring)”
- **Thumbnail:** A clear list promise like “11 TAX STRATEGIES” with you in a suit, or a simple pie chart labeled “THE RICH PORTFOLIO”.

- **What to change for you:** Choose three strategies you actually use with clients, not a list from the internet, and explain who each one is for. If you work with a CPA firm, invite one of their partners. It's a better video, and they will share it.

## What can you do this week to check demand in your area?

One evening is enough to know if your client type has demand and which five videos to film first:

1. **Search the way your client would.** In an incognito window, type “wealth manager [city]”, “retire with 3 million” and “[your client type] financial planning” into YouTube. Note the top five results: who they are, how many views, and whether any are local firms.
2. **Copy the real questions.** Autocomplete and “People also ask” on Google give you questions like “how much do wealth managers charge” or “is a wealth manager worth it”. Each is a video.
3. **Look at local competitors.** Search “wealth management [city]” in Google Maps. How many firms have a YouTube channel? In many cities the answer is almost none.
4. **Find the ceiling.** Check the cost of a click for “wealth management [city]” in Google Keyword Planner. That's what competitors pay just to be seen.
5. **Read your last ten discovery meetings.** Write down the first question and the reason a prospect went quiet. The five most common are your first videos.
6. **Run the break-even.** Put your average annual fee per client and a year of content into our [break-even calculator](https://evgenymaximov.com/break-even-calculator/). For most firms, one client covers a lot.

After this evening you have a small niche X-ray, a client question map and five videos with real references, which is the work we do in the first two weeks with a new client. If you want a team to film and publish them, [here is how our YouTube strategy service works](https://evgenymaximov.com/services/youtube-strategy/).

## A 90-day video plan for a wealth management firm

1 filming dayin your office, once a month
→
4 long videos1 broad, 1 comparison, 1 process, 1 proof
→
Compliance, then publishplus Shorts, emails, partner shares

1. **Month 1:** agree on the review process with compliance first. Then one filming day with [question-based scripts](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-script-template/): “Is $2M enough to retire?”, a fee video, a Roth conversion explainer and “what happens in our first meeting”.
2. **Month 2:** repeat. Send the fee video and the process video to every new lead before the intro call. Cut a few Shorts from the strongest answers and [reuse the videos](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/repurpose-youtube-videos/) in your client newsletter.
3. **Month 3:** send the best two videos to your CPAs and estate attorneys. Ask every new prospect which video they watched. Make more of those, not of the ones with the most views.

Expect a slow start. Wealthy clients decide slowly, so the first months are an investment. The payoff comes when your answers start showing up in search for the exact questions your future clients type at 11 pm before a big decision. If you want to see what this costs, here's [a breakdown of YouTube production costs](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-video-production-cost/).

## What to skip

- **Market calls and stock tips.** They attract traders, not clients, and they're the hardest content to get through compliance. Planning decisions are what a wealthy client pays for.
- **Viral trends.** A dance in the office won't move a $3M decision. It can hurt one.
- **Buying followers or views.** Fake numbers confuse YouTube about who your audience is, and a careful prospect notices.
- **Doing it all yourself.** Your time is worth more in client meetings than in an editing app.

Wealth management is a slow, high-trust sale, and long video fits it well. Your future clients are already researching. The question is whether they find your thinking or someone else's. If you want a team to plan, film and publish the channel while you keep serving clients, see [how our done-for-you YouTube service works](https://evgenymaximov.com/services/b2b-youtube-agency/).

## FAQ

**What is wealth management marketing?**

Wealth management marketing is how an RIA or wealth management firm attracts and wins clients with significant assets, usually $1M and more. Referrals and centers of influence still matter most, but long educational content now does a big part of the trust building, because wealthy clients research a firm for months before the first meeting.

**What is the best marketing strategy for a wealth management firm?**

Pick one client type, answer their real questions in long videos and articles, and make it easy to book an intro call. Keep referrals and centers of influence like CPAs and estate attorneys, and give them videos they can forward. Evgeny Maximov's agency recommends one filming day a month for four long videos, with time built in for compliance review.

**Does YouTube work for wealth managers and RIAs?**

Yes, when the videos answer questions wealthy clients search: how much they need to retire, Roth conversions, taxes, fees and how to choose an advisor. Channels run by advisors, like Nick Davis, CFP, or Merit Financial Advisors, get hundreds of thousands of views on these topics. A wealth manager needs only a few right viewers a year.

**How is wealth management marketing different from financial advisor marketing?**

The clients are bigger and slower. A wealth management client often brings $1M or more and stays for many years, so the decision takes longer and the fear of a mistake is higher. Content goes deeper: taxes, estate questions, business exits and fee structures, with fewer beginner topics.

**What should an RIA post on YouTube?**

Scenario videos like “Is $2M enough to retire?”, tax explainers like Roth conversions, honest fee videos, “how to choose an advisor” videos and anonymized planning cases. Each video should answer one question a prospect asks in a first meeting.

**How do wealth managers stay compliant on YouTube?**

Review scripts and edits with compliance before publishing, use clearly labeled hypothetical examples, avoid performance promises, follow your regulator's rules on testimonials and endorsements, add disclaimers and archive everything. The exact rules depend on your registration and country, so check with your compliance team.

**How much should a wealth management firm spend on marketing?**

Start from the value of one client. At a 1% fee, a $2M client pays about $20,000 a year, often for many years. Production with Evgeny Maximov's agency starts from $3,000 a month, so one or two new clients a year can cover a year of content. This is an illustration, not a promise of results.

**Should I hire an RIA marketing firm or a video production agency?**

An RIA marketing firm usually covers ads, websites, email and compliance-friendly templates. A video production agency builds a channel with your face and your thinking. If your prospects research for months, long video is the part that's hardest to do yourself, so many firms combine both.

**Has Evgeny Maximov's agency worked with wealth managers?**

Not yet. The closest example is Tvoy Sklad, a self-storage franchise that raised about $5M from private investors over 2024–2025 with YouTube as a main channel. Investors watched the videos for months and came to calls saying they had already seen everything.

**How long until a wealth manager gets clients from YouTube?**

Plan for several months before the first inquiry and a year before the library works steadily. Wealthy clients research slowly, so a video published today may bring a meeting next year. Tax and retirement questions are evergreen, which means good videos keep working for years.

**What should a wealth manager avoid in video marketing?**

Market predictions, hot stock picks, performance claims, viral trends and buying followers. They bring the wrong viewers and create compliance risk. Calm, specific education about planning decisions is what a client with $1M or more trusts.

**How do I check if there is demand for wealth management videos in my market?**

Search your client type and city on YouTube and Google Maps in an incognito window, note which firms have channels and the views of the top five videos. Copy the “People also ask” questions and compare them with the questions from your last ten discovery meetings.
