# Video Production Services for Business: What to Buy, What It Costs and How to Brief

"Video production services" can mean a brand film, a client testimonial, an explainer, a set of ads or a whole YouTube channel. They cost very different money and solve very different problems. Here's how to decide what your business actually needs, with public price ranges and a brief you can send today.

By **Evgeny Maximov** · 10 min read · 23 Oct 2026

**Key takeaways**

**Short answer:** video production services cover planning, filming and editing, and a business usually buys one of five things: a brand or company video, client testimonials and case studies, explainers, ad creative, or ongoing YouTube production. Public 2026 guides put corporate video at roughly $1,000 to $15,000+ per finished minute, a freelance shoot day at about $400–4,000, and a simple interview video at about $800–3,500. Pick by the question a buyer needs answered, not by the lowest quote.

- Decide what the video must do before you ask for prices.
- Compare what's included: filming, editing, revisions and rights.
- One video answers one question. Buyers of big deals watch many.
- A one-page brief saves you more money than a negotiation.

## What do video production services include?

Every video goes through three phases. A company can sell all three or only one, and the quotes look very different depending on which.

| Phase | What happens | What to check in a quote |
|---|---|---|
| **Pre-production** | idea, script or outline, shot list, location, people, permits | who writes the script, how many calls, who finds the location |
| **Production** | filming, lighting, sound, interviews, B-roll | crew size, hours on site, travel, equipment |
| **Post-production** | editing, color, sound, graphics, captions, versions for each platform | revision rounds, delivery formats, raw footage, rights |

For a YouTube channel there are seven jobs behind each video, because you also need packaging, publishing and analytics. [Here's how that works week by week](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/how-youtube-production-works/).

## What can a business actually buy?

Most requests for "video production services" fall into five buckets. Here they are with public price ranges. Prices are what vendor guides published in 2026, so use them to see the order of magnitude, not as a quote.

| What you buy | Job it does | Typical public price | Fits if |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Brand or company video** | tells who you are and why you're different | about $5,000–15,000+ per finished minute for a brand story | you need one polished asset for your site and sales deck |
| **Testimonial or case study** | shows a client result in the client's words | about $800–3,500 for a simple interview with one videographer; $1,000–15,000+ per minute with a larger crew | you sell high-ticket services and buyers ask "who else did you do this for?" |
| **Explainer or demo** | explains how something works | about $2,000–20,000+ per minute, animation costs more | your service is hard to explain in a call |
| **Ad creative** | short videos for paid ads | about $100–500 per ad from an agency; UGC about $150–300 per video | you already buy ads and need many versions to test |
| **Ongoing YouTube** | a library of videos that works for years | see [what YouTube production costs](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-video-production-cost/) | one client is worth thousands of dollars and you want trust before the first call |

All four are vendors with an interest in pricing, so treat the numbers as direction, not law.

## Why is price per minute a poor way to compare quotes?

Because a one-minute animated explainer with custom graphics costs far more than a one-minute talking-head testimonial shot in one place. The same guides that list per-minute prices say that scope matters more than length. A 20-minute interview can be faster to edit than a 90-second film with motion graphics.

So ask for a price per deliverable and write down what drives it:

- **People.** One videographer or a crew of five.
- **Place.** Your office, a studio, several locations, travel.
- **Style.** Talking head, documentary, animation, mixed.
- **Versions.** One horizontal video, or also vertical clips and cutdowns.
- **City.** The Ruah guide adds 30–60% in New York or Los Angeles and subtracts 20–30% in rural markets.

## Production company, freelancer or agency?

| Option | You get | Public day or monthly price | You still do |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Freelance videographer** | filming, usually basic editing | about $400–800 a day junior, $800–2,000 mid-level, $2,000–4,000 senior | idea, script, brief, review, publishing |
| **Production company** | a crew, a producer and a finished video for a project fee | about $1,000–50,000+ per video, depending on scope | the goal, the message, distribution |
| **Video marketing agency** | strategy, production and distribution on a retainer | often $5,000–10,000 a month as a B2B starting point | approvals and results tracking |
| **YouTube production agency** | the whole channel: ideas, scripts, editing, thumbnails, publishing | from $3,000 a month in our case | filming days and feedback |

If you need one video, a freelancer or a small production company is the right call. If you need video every week for a year, a team is cheaper in your time. We compare the retainer models in [how to choose a video marketing agency](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/video-marketing-agency/) and the named companies in [YouTube production companies compared](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-production-companies/).

## How do you write a video production brief?

Most overruns come from a vague brief. Write one page and send it to every company you talk to, so the quotes are comparable.

- **Goal.** One sentence: "Help prospects trust us before the first call."
- **Viewer.** Who watches, and what they already know.
- **The question.** What the video answers, in the viewer's words.
- **Where it runs.** Website, YouTube, sales emails, ads, events. This decides the format.
- **Length and versions.** One long video, plus how many clips and in which shapes.
- **Proof.** Numbers, clients and results you can show on screen.
- **People and places.** Who is on camera, where you can film, what you can't show.
- **Approvals.** Who signs off, how fast, how many revision rounds.
- **Budget and date.** A range is fine. Without it you get quotes that start at everything and end at nothing.

**Want to see which videos sell high-ticket services?** The free Business YouTube Playbook shows the formats, the system and the budget. No opt-ins. [Read the Playbook](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/business-youtube-playbook/)

## What should you ask before signing?

- Which of the three phases are in the price, and what costs extra?
- Who writes the script, and will it use my stories and numbers?
- Who exactly films and edits, and can I see their work for a business like mine?
- How many revision rounds are included, and how fast do you answer?
- Who owns the final video? Ask for a written assignment of rights or a clear license, plus raw footage and project files.
- Which versions do I get: horizontal, vertical, clips, captions?
- What is the schedule, with a date for every approval?
- What happens if I'm not happy after the first cut?
- Can I talk to a past client, not only watch a reel?

On rights: one 2026 guide notes that paying the invoice does not transfer copyright and that the client owns the work only if the agency assigns it in writing. This is general information, not legal advice, so have your lawyer read the contract. ## Where does YouTube fit, and when is one video enough?

One video is the right choice when you need a single asset: a company intro for your site, an investor pitch, a launch. Our client Tvoy Sklad, a self-storage franchise, started with a 5-minute video version of its pitch deck, filmed in about two hours. [Here's how that video was made](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/investor-pitch-video/).

A channel is the better choice when one client is worth thousands of dollars and buyers research before they call. Then you need many videos that answer many questions, and they keep working for years. Tvoy Sklad raised about $5M with videos that got 2,000 to 20,000 views each, and their marketing team says new partners often arrive saying they've already watched everything. That only happens with a library, not with one film. The full story is in [the case study](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/tvoy-sklad-youtube-case-study/). If your average deal is small, don't build a channel. Buy one or two good videos instead.

## Which real videos show what you are paying for?

Here are four videos from working video professionals that show what sits behind a quote: a real shoot, an interview setup, the full production process and how a company intro video should be planned. Views are YouTube data on 23 October 2026. They show demand for the topic, not how many clients any video brought.

## And where do we stand?

I'll be straight. We aren't a classic corporate film house with a big crew for TV-style brand films, event coverage or ad shoots. We run done-for-you YouTube production for founders and experts with high-ticket services: strategy, scripts, editing, thumbnails, publishing and Shorts, and you film one day a month. We start from $3,000 a month, one-off projects from $500, and a video podcast from $500 for pre-production and post-production, with filming priced separately by location.

- **Pick us if** you sell something high-ticket and want a library of videos that builds trust, not one film.
- **Don't pick us if** you need a large crew for a one-off commercial or event, or you want a guarantee of views or calls. We give none, only a 7-day money back guarantee.

If you'd like us to turn your pitch, case studies or expertise into videos that sell, see [our YouTube production service](https://evgenymaximov.com/services/youtube-production/).

## FAQ

**What are video production services?**

Video production services cover the work of making a video: planning and scripting (pre-production), filming (production) and editing, sound and delivery (post-production). A company can sell one part, such as editing only, or the whole project from idea to finished files.

**How much do video production services cost in 2026?**

Public 2026 guides put corporate video at roughly $1,000 to $15,000 or more per finished minute, depending on type and complexity. A freelance videographer is listed at about $400–4,000 a day, and a simple interview or testimonial video at about $800–3,500. These are vendor guides, so treat them as ranges, not quotes.

**What kinds of videos should a business buy first?**

For a business with high-ticket services, start with videos that answer a buyer's questions: a client story, a founder explaining how you work and a video about your pricing. Brand films and ads come later, when you already know which message sells.

**What is the difference between a video production company and a video marketing agency?**

A production company shoots and edits what you specify. A video marketing agency should also help decide what to make, where it runs and how you measure it. If the scope is only 'make a video', you hired a production company.

**How do I write a video production brief?**

Write one page: the goal, the viewer, the question the video answers, where it will run, the length and cutdowns you need, proof you can show, who approves it, your budget and the deadline. Add what you already own, such as footage, logos and a script.

**Do I own the video after I pay for it?**

Not automatically. In the US, paying an invoice does not by itself transfer copyright, so ask for a written assignment of rights or a clear license, and for the raw footage and project files if you may need them later.

**Is it better to hire a freelancer or a video production company?**

A freelancer is usually cheaper for one simple video when you can manage the work yourself. A company is better when you need a crew, strategy, several people and someone responsible for the schedule. Ongoing channels work better with a team than with one freelancer.

**How long does video production take?**

It depends on scope, the number of people on screen and how fast you approve each step. A simple interview is quicker than a scripted film with graphics. Ask every company for a written schedule with a date for each approval, and agree on how many revision rounds are included.

**Is one corporate video enough for a business?**

One video is an asset, but it answers only one question. Buyers of high-ticket services watch several videos before they call. A library of videos on a channel keeps working and builds trust over time, which is why many of our clients choose ongoing production.

**What does Evgeny Maximov's agency offer in video production?**

Evgeny Maximov's agency runs done-for-you YouTube production for founders and experts: strategy, scripts, editing, thumbnails, publishing and Shorts, with one filming day a month. It starts from $3,000 a month, one-off projects from $500, and a video podcast from $500 plus filming by location.
