# Long-Form Video Content: Why Your Buyers Will Watch an Hour (and Then Call)

Everyone tells you to make shorter videos. Meanwhile, my most useful video for sales is an hour and ten minutes long. Here's what changed on YouTube, and how a business can use it.

By **Evgeny Maximov** · 9 min read · 8 Oct 2026

**Key takeaways**

**Short answer:** long-form video content works for a business because the people who are about to buy are ready to watch for a long time. Make a video as long as the topic honestly needs: 10–25 minutes for an expert video, 30–60 minutes for a **masterclass** that shows how your service works and ends with one call to action.

- Shorts bring reach. Long videos build trust. You need both, and one shoot can give you both.
- Length alone doesn't get rewarded anymore. A topic that deserves it, plus structure, does.
- A masterclass is the best sales call you'll never have to take.
- Use it beyond YouTube: old leads, sales follow-ups, chat automations.

## Why is long-form video content winning on YouTube?

Because YouTube changed who it competes with. Shorts compete with Reels and TikTok: quick content on the go. Long videos moved into another role: background viewing, deep dives, a podcast replacement. The competition there is streaming and the TV in your living room, not other social networks.

So long and short aren't fighting for the same attention anymore. They're different formats for different moments. That's exactly why we do both. This year my team published about 150 long videos and more than 1,000 Shorts for clients. From every long video we cut five to ten Shorts.

| | Short-form | Long-form |
|---|---|---|
| **Job** | reach: people see your face and remember you | trust: people hear you think |
| **Who watches** | anyone scrolling | people with the problem, often close to buying |
| **Competes with** | Reels, TikTok | podcasts, Netflix, TV |
| **What it brings** | views and followers | calls and clients |

## Do busy business owners really watch hour-long videos?

The ones who are about to buy do. A franchise investor won't decide in sixty seconds. Neither will someone hiring a lawyer, a consultant or a coach for $10,000.

Coach Taki Moore shared a story that stuck with me. A former client of his analysed every buyer of his business. Each one had consumed **at least 47 minutes of content** before buying. Not 47 seconds. Minutes.

Our franchise client Tvoy Sklad posts one-hour interviews with partners and full recordings of their livestreams. Some of them get very few views. Who watches? Exactly the people about to invest. That channel helped the company raise about $5M in investments in 2024–2025, without ads. [Read the case](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/tvoy-sklad-youtube-case-study/).

## Does YouTube still reward long videos just for being long?

No. The easy window has closed. A couple of years ago you could make a long video and get a boost just for the runtime. Now that doesn't work. Viewers feel it when you drag them, and they leave.

But the format isn't dead. Something else works now:

1. **The topic justifies the length.** If your topic needs two hours, make two hours. If it needs twenty minutes, don't stretch it because “long is trending”.
2. **Niche depth.** Long works best when a narrow audience needs the full picture. Not a broad topic for everyone, but a deep topic for people who really care. Those people watch to the end.
3. **Structure beats length.** A long video without an inner story is torture. A long video with turns, build-up and a payoff pulls you in. The question is whether there's a reason to keep watching at minute twenty. Timestamps are mandatory.

## How long should a business video be?

| Format | Typical length | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| **Short** | under 60 seconds | reach, one idea, a teaser of a long video |
| **Expert video** | 10–25 minutes | one buyer question answered completely |
| **Case interview / podcast** | 30–60 minutes | proof: a client tells the story in their words |
| **Masterclass** | 30–60 minutes | your method, start to finish, with one call to action |
| **Recorded workshop or compilation** | 1 hour and more | people who want everything in one place |

Not sure? Take a topic you know well. Make the video as long as it honestly needs to be. No filler. Then compare its retention with your shorter videos.

## What is a masterclass video, and why should a business make one?

For a business, the killer long format isn't a four-hour video essay. It's a **30–60 minute masterclass**: your cornerstone content.

- Show everything: the problem, your method, before and after, proof, testimonials, how your service actually works, a look behind the scenes.
- It pre-educates the buyer about your offer.
- At the end, one ask: book a call.

Why would anyone give away an hour of their best thinking for free? Because people watch it, understand they know more now, and realise they need help to do it. When I built a strategy for Brian Mark, a coach with a big Instagram audience and a waitlist, the first thing I suggested was a 30–60 minute masterclass. It warms up leads without growing the sales team.

And it's less work than it sounds. I recorded my 70-minute Business YouTube Playbook in about 85 minutes, at ten on a Saturday evening, from one document. The rule of thumb: filming takes about two times the final length if you're experienced, three times if you're a beginner.

## How do you turn one long video into clients?

1 masterclass30–60 minutes
→
5–10 Shortsreach that points back to it
→
Old leads, sales follow-ups, chatbotsthe same link, everywhere
→
Booked callwith someone who already watched

- **Link in the first line** of the description and in a pinned comment. Most people never click “more”.
- **Send it to leads who went quiet.** “I recorded the whole process, have a look.” It's a softer follow-up than “just checking in”.
- **Give it to your sales team.** When an objection comes up on a call, they send the chapter that answers it.
- **Stitch old videos into one.** A playlist makes the viewer search where they stopped. One long compilation keeps them in one place and counts as continuous watch time. Alex Hormozi's channel does this all the time.

## Is long-form right for your channel? Three questions

1. Do you have a topic you honestly can't cover in twenty minutes?
2. Is your buyer making a big decision, one that needs time and trust?
3. Do you have old videos you can stitch into one without losing the point?

If you answered yes to at least one, start with one masterclass. Long isn't a hack anymore. But when the topic deserves it, long content builds trust like nothing else: hours of someone listening to you think. For a business, that's the best sales call you'll never have to take.

## FAQ

**What is long-form video content?**

Long-form video content is a horizontal video, usually 10 minutes or longer, made to explain a topic in depth. For a business, the most useful long-form format is a 30–60 minute masterclass or a 15–25 minute expert video that answers one buyer question completely.

**How long should a long-form business video be?**

As long as the topic honestly needs and no longer. In Evgeny Maximov's agency most expert videos are 10–25 minutes, and a cornerstone masterclass is 30–60 minutes. Stretching a 20-minute topic to two hours because long is trending hurts retention.

**Is long-form or short-form video better for business?**

You need both, for different jobs. Shorts bring reach and get people to see your face, while long videos build the trust that leads to a sales call. Evgeny Maximov's agency cuts 5–10 Shorts from every long video so one shoot covers both.

**Do busy business owners really watch hour-long videos?**

The ones who are about to buy do. Coach Taki Moore shared that a former client analysed his buyers and found every one of them had consumed at least 47 minutes of content before deciding. A high-ticket buyer won't decide in 60 seconds.

**What is a masterclass video?**

A 30–60 minute cornerstone video that shows how your service works: the problem, the method, before and after, proof and one call to action at the end. It pre-educates buyers, so they come to a sales call already informed.

**How do I use a long video to get clients?**

Put one call to action at the end and a link in the first line of the description, then use the video beyond YouTube: send it to leads who went quiet, give it to your sales team as a follow-up, and link it in chat automations. The video does part of the sales call for you.

**Does YouTube still reward long videos?**

Not for length alone. The easy window when any long video got a boost has closed. Long videos still win when the topic deserves the length and the video has a structure that gives people a reason to keep watching at minute twenty.

**How do I keep people watching a long video?**

Give it a structure with chapters, turns and a payoff at the end. Don't give the main answer in the first minute, add timestamps, and put one real story in every block. A long video without an inner story is torture.

**What are examples of long-form video content for business?**

A masterclass on your method, a full client case interview, a recorded workshop or livestream, a long podcast episode with a partner, and compilations of your best shorter videos stitched into one. Evgeny Maximov's own Business YouTube Playbook video is about 1 hour 10 minutes.

**How long does it take to film a one-hour video?**

Less than people think. Evgeny Maximov recorded his 70-minute Business YouTube Playbook in about 85 minutes, on a Saturday evening, from one document. As a rule, filming takes about two times the final length for an experienced speaker and three times for a beginner.

**Can I turn old videos into one long video?**

Yes. Stitch related videos into one compilation. A playlist makes the viewer look for where they stopped, while one long video keeps them in one place and counts as continuous watch time. Alex Hormozi's channel does this often.
