# A Home Builder's YouTube Channel: 55 Shorts From 6 Long Videos, the Best at 132,000 Views

«Давай Построим» (“Let's Build”) is a home builder's channel in Russian. After the first filming day two Shorts took off at about 60,000 and 120,000 views. Here is what we made, which topics worked, and what I can't prove yet.

**Key takeaways**

**Short answer:** for a home builder's channel we cut **55 Shorts from 6 long videos**. Two Shorts took off after the first filming day, at about 60,000 and 120,000 views, and the top three Shorts now have **132,000, 128,000 and 103,000 views**. The topics that flew were regional building habits and mistakes that make a house look cheap. The channel has about 6,400 subscribers, and I don't have a lead number to show you.

- The channel is in Russian. The format and the topics transfer, the numbers don't.
- We moved from nerdy topics to broad ones buyers argue about.
- Half of the top Shorts are cuts from long videos, half were filmed as Shorts.
- Shorts brought reach. Long videos explain and build trust. Proof of clients is still missing.

Before

An inactive YouTube channel. The team was posting Reels on Instagram, but long-form videos kept getting pushed aside: construction already took most of their time, and a thoughtful YouTube video takes a lot more planning and work.

What we did

Broad topics buyers argue about, filming in a studio and on site, and a Shorts system: 55 clips from 6 long videos.

Result

Top Shorts at **132K, 128K and 103K** views. About **6,400** subscribers. No lead numbers.

## Who is this client, and what does the channel look like?

The client is a home builder. His channel is [«Давай Построим»](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5xnQLOQwVV5ZXYoo6NTvkg), which means “Let's Build”. It is in Russian, for buyers of private houses in southern Russia. I'm showing it in an English article for two reasons. The buyer is the one you know: scared of the budget doubling, of a crew that disappears, of a house that looks cheap. And the numbers on the channel are public, so you can check them yourself.

I use this channel in [the contractor marketing guide](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/marketing-for-contractors/) as well. This page is the case file: what we did, in order, with the numbers and the limits.

Here is one of the long videos, with the title in English: “Houses like these should NOT be built! The worst house layouts that are uncomfortable to live in”. It is 25 minutes, one person talking, one clear promise.

## What was the problem before?

The builder already had an Instagram presence, but the YouTube channel was inactive. Long videos take more time and energy to plan, film and finish, and the construction business was already taking up most of the team’s attention. So long-form content kept falling to the bottom of the list.

When we started making these videos, we didn’t just show construction expertise. We also gave the speaker room to share his taste and point of view: what he likes, what he would avoid, and how he thinks a home should feel. That matters because buyers are choosing a person they can trust with a huge decision. They want to find a specialist whose judgment resonates with them. If you have a clear opinion about your industry, say it on camera. Those opinions help the right clients recognize you.

## What did we do?

55 Shortsfrom 6 long videos

**1. Broader topics.** Bad house layouts, mistakes that make a house look cheap, polycarbonate canopies, bathrooms, basements. Things every future owner already has an opinion on.

**2. Anchor scripts, then filming.** We prepared the scripts, and he recorded. Some videos were shot in a studio, some on the building site. As in every project, [the team does everything around the filming](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/how-youtube-production-works/): scripts, editing, thumbnails, titles, publishing.

**3. A Shorts system.** From the first 6 long videos we cut 55 Shorts. Usually I don't recommend cutting that many clips from one long video, because the energy of a long video is often wrong for a Short. But he had strong hooks, and it worked.

## What are the numbers?

These are public numbers from the channel, taken on 24 October 2026, and the numbers from our own records.

## Which Shorts flew, and why?

The three best Shorts are a good lesson in themselves. Titles in English:

- “Stop laying the first course of bricks! Build a level foundation and start the walls right away” (132K views).
- “Because of this your house looks cheap!” (128K views).
- “The fastest way to calculate brickwork quantity” (103K views).

Each one gives a clear, practical, slightly bold statement in the first second. And the ones that flew most often had a simple trigger: regional building habits. “In the south we build like this, in the north like that.” The comments exploded: “In my village we do it differently!” A small debate under a construction video is a gift for reach.

Views show demand, not how many clients a video brought. I want you to keep that sentence next to every number on this page.

## What didn't work, and what can't I prove?

Three honest limits.

**The long videos are smaller.** The long video above has about 4,800 views. The channel has about 6,400 subscribers. For this builder the Shorts brought the reach, and the long videos do the explaining for people who are already deciding. If you hope that every long video will do hundreds of thousands, don't. In a niche like construction, [a smaller number of the right people is the goal](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/vanity-metrics-views-vs-clients/).

**I have no lead number.** I can show you views, which are public. I can't show you how many calls or contracts came from this channel, so I'm not going to say it. A house is one of the biggest purchases a person makes, and the sale is slow. Counting needs a question on every call: “Which video did you watch?”

**Reach and the local market are different things.** A builder who works in one region gets views from the whole country. Some of those people will never be buyers. If you build in one area, check who watches, and think about which videos are for strangers and which are for your buyers. I wrote about that split in [the YouTube sales funnel](https://evgenymaximov.com/blog/youtube-sales-funnel/).

## What can you copy from this case?

- Widen the topic before you film. Ask: “Would a person who isn't hiring a builder yet click this?”
- Look for a regional or opinion trigger: “in my area we do it differently” is worth more than a perfect explanation.
- Film long first, then look for Shorts with a strong first line. Don't force every long video into ten clips.
- Film on the job site at least once. It is the thing buyers can't check any other way.
- Skip Shorts if you are a calm, precise speaker. Make long, detailed videos instead.
- Ask every new lead which video they watched, from the first day.

## FAQ

**How many Shorts did you make for the home builder?**

From 6 long videos we cut 55 Shorts. About half of the channel's top Shorts are cuts from long videos, and the rest were filmed as Shorts, some in a studio and some on the building site.

**How many views did the best Shorts get?**

The top three Shorts on the channel have 132,000, 128,000 and 103,000 views (YouTube data on 24 October 2026). Two Shorts took off right after the first filming day, at about 60,000 and 120,000 views.

**Which Shorts topics worked for a home builder?**

Regional building habits and mistakes that make a house look cheap. Posts like “in the south we build like this, in the north like that” started debates in the comments, and debates help reach.

**Did the long videos work as well as the Shorts?**

Not at the same scale. The channel has about 6,400 subscribers, and a 25-minute video on the worst house layouts has about 4,800 views. For this client the Shorts brought the reach and the long videos did the explaining.

**Did the channel bring the builder clients?**

I don't have a lead number for this channel, so I won't claim one. Views show demand, not how many clients a video brought. For a builder the real test is how many calls mention a video.

**Is the channel in English?**

No. «Давай Построим» (“Let's Build”) is a Russian-language channel for the Russian market. A few Shorts have English titles. The format, the topics and the cutting method are what transfer to other markets, not the numbers.

**Why cut so many Shorts from long videos?**

Usually I don't recommend cutting that many, because the energy of a long video is often wrong for a Short. This builder had strong hooks, so it worked. If the speaker is calm, long videos are the better bet.

**What did you change in the content plan?**

We moved from ultra-nerdy topics, like an hour on one building detail, to broader ones: bad house layouts, mistakes that make a house look cheap, polycarbonate canopies. Same expertise, a wider door.

**Do Shorts work for every contractor?**

No. They work when the owner has the energy and an opinion. A calm, precise renovation contractor I reviewed got 15,000 views and about 200 followers from a Reel and no clients. He is better off with long, detailed videos.

**What is Dzen?**

Dzen is a Russian content platform. We posted the same Shorts there as well. In our records for the channel's Shorts that is about 1.1 million views on Dzen next to 588,000 views on YouTube.

**Can you make a channel like this for a US or UK contractor?**

Yes, the method is the same: research the top videos in your niche, pick broad topics buyers argue about, film on site, and cut Shorts from the long videos. Results depend on your market, and we promise no views or leads.
