And I still think that I’m only at the beginning of my creative journey.

How I grow (literally)

14 years old

Videogames - let's plays

One of the very first videos that I recorded with my face.

I was passionate about video games, so I launched my first YouTube channel. 20-30 minutes of boring “let’s play” that I recorded every single day.

I became a YouTuber because of my “silly” interest.

10 years later. I’m still creating content.

videogames - reviews, articles

I bought a mic and started shooting myself using an old camcorder.

Niche is the same but videos are more complex.

I worked on a website as an article writer.

The main skills of writing, video editing, and speaking on a camera I got from that period.

Videogames - Live streams and podcast

Worked as a streamer for several teams and my channel.

Launched the first podcast which we recorded live on Twitch.

Released 50+ episodes during 1 year. Every episode got a minimum of 3.000+ downloads (which is huge for the Russian market in 2016).

18 years old

photography and filmmaking

When I got my first good camera (Canon 600D) I released around 1000 videos on YouTube. But I didn’t shoot any camera footage.

So next step was learning a lot about photography and filmmaking.

Capturing sunsets, and sunrises. Making photos for my friends, for random clients found me online.

I had a goal – 100 photoshoots during 1 year to improve my skills. It’s 1 photoshoot per ~3 days.

I don’t remember exactly, but I think I was too close to finish it (something like 95/100).

My life changed because I finished school and it was time to study at university. To become a navigation officer.

Filmmaking

I started shooting videos for my university: event ads, interviews, and some random funny experiments.

Our creative team was sent to Moscow which is 1800km away from my hometown (I’m from Novorossiysk, Black Sea coast).

We had to compete with others to create the best review of the event.

I and my team took third place on the forum of the largest transportation universities in Russia. But that’s not the end of the story…

During the year I was all into filmmaking and created different videos for clients: businesses, events, influencers.

filmmaking

…We took the first place on the same forum one year later. Nailed it wearing the same uniform.

I was developing my skills, and making some money from working with clients’.

But that’s not enough. I wanted to become an influencer and create content for myself.

Because I changed niches, my old audience and channels are useless. So I had to start from scratch.

Released a few videos for a new YouTube channel about filmmaking, photography, and video editing.

That was 2019. Year before COVID. The year before the first sea contract.

???

I’m a future navigation officer.

So to get a working diploma it’s mandatory to have two 6-month contracts on actual trading vessels.

I jumped on the tanker at the end of February 2020… and then COVID paralyzed the whole world.

I spent 200 days on a tanker. I visited 3 continents, and ~10 different countries. But touched ground once.

Great exercise on how to lose your mind in the sea. (Not recommended)

I already knew that this profession was not for me. I want to be a content creator and make a living out of it. Create something more valuable than just transferring oil between countries.

let's take a short break. some pictures i've shot during the contract.

Content creator in english

I decided to switch languages and started doing all activities in English: YouTube, online courses, a digital store, and working with international clients.

All because I watched a video of Ali Abdaal about his “revenue breakdown in 2020”. This was mind-blowing for me and opened a new world, a new vector that I want to try.

A lot of new experiments, and a lot of content that I created using a second language.

But I had to finish a second contract on another tanker.

I knew that sea work was not for me. I finally understood my passion – content making.

I don’t want to be a seafarer, I want to be a content creator.

Even though working at sea is bad for you, it’s a place for major personal growth.

I read a lot of books, I wrote a lot of scripts for my future content.

I had long watches during nights – the perfect place to think about everything.

business owner... What?

I’ve got a useless diploma from my university.

I’m finally free.

It’s time to do something big.

I arranged several offline events speaking about content creation.

I participated as a speaker at various events (both offline and online).

My knowledge is valuable and people are interested to learn more.

I had a chance to work as a Head of Content for one startup at the beginning of 2023.

I started to grow as an international specialist.
